Veneers in Koothattukulam
A veneer is a thin shell fixed to the front of a tooth. It can change the colour, shape, size and length of the tooth, and several veneers together can change the look of a whole smile.
Who veneers suit
- Chipped or worn teeth
- Stains that do not respond to cleaning
- Small gaps between teeth
- Teeth that are uneven, short or misshapen
Veneers need healthy teeth and gums. Decay and gum disease are treated first, and heavy grinding needs to be dealt with so that it does not break the veneers.
The steps
- Consultation, iTero scan and a preview of your likely result.
- Planning the shape and shade with you.
- Preparing the teeth. A thin layer of enamel is usually removed so that the veneer fits.
- Making the veneers from a scan or impression of your teeth.
- Fitting the veneers, checking the bite and the look, and fixing them in place.
- A follow-up visit to check the fit and your gums.
Things to know before you decide
- Removing enamel cannot be undone, so porcelain veneers are a long-term decision
- Veneers can chip or come off if you bite hard objects, nails or pens
- Teeth under veneers still need brushing, cleaning between them and regular check-ups
- If you grind your teeth at night, a night guard can protect the veneers
Porcelain or composite
Porcelain veneers are made in a lab and are more resistant to stains. Composite veneers and bonding are shaped directly on the tooth, usually in one visit, with little or no enamel removal. You can read about that option on our composite bonding page.
Cost and EMI
The cost depends on the number of teeth and the material. We give you an estimate after your consultation, before you decide. EMI is available with Bajaj Finserv EMI Network, subject to approval.
Questions about veneers
How long do veneers last?
It depends on the material, how well you look after them and habits such as grinding. Porcelain generally lasts longer than composite. Your dentist can give you a realistic idea for your case.
Do veneers hurt?
The teeth are numbed when they are prepared if needed. Some sensitivity afterwards is possible and usually settles.
Will veneers stain?
Porcelain resists stains well. Composite can stain over time, like natural teeth, from tea, coffee and tobacco.
Are veneers better than Invisalign?
They do different things. Veneers change the shape and colour of the teeth. Invisalign moves the teeth. Some people have both.
Can I see how they will look first?
Yes. At the consultation, the iTero scan lets us show you a preview of your likely result. Individual results vary.
This page gives general information. Your own treatment depends on an examination by your dentist. Individual results vary.
