Tooth fillings in Koothattukulam

A cavity is a hole in a tooth caused by decay. It does not heal by itself, and it keeps growing. A filling removes the decay and rebuilds the tooth, and the earlier it is done, the smaller the filling needs to be.

Signs you may have a cavity

  • Pain or sensitivity to sweet, hot or cold food
  • A visible hole or dark spot on a tooth
  • Food that keeps getting stuck in one place
  • A rough edge you can feel with your tongue
  • A chipped or broken tooth

A cavity can also cause no symptoms at the start, which is why regular check-ups matter.

What happens

  1. Your dentist examines the tooth and may take an X-ray.
  2. The area is numbed if needed.
  3. The decayed part of the tooth is cleaned out.
  4. The tooth is rebuilt with a tooth-coloured filling and shaped to fit your bite.
  5. Your bite is checked and the filling is polished.

Tooth-coloured fillings

We use tooth-coloured composite, which is matched to the shade of your tooth so that the filling is hard to see. The same material is used for bonding, to repair chips and close small gaps.

If the decay is deep

If the decay has reached the nerve of the tooth, a filling alone may not be enough. Your dentist may suggest a root canal treatment, and a crown, to save the tooth. The sooner a cavity is treated, the more likely a simple filling will do.

Cost and EMI

The cost depends on the size and number of fillings. We explain it before we start. EMI is available with Bajaj Finserv EMI Network, subject to approval.

Questions about tooth fillings

Does getting a filling hurt?

The tooth is numbed if needed, so you should feel pressure but not pain. The tooth can feel a bit sensitive afterwards.

How long does a filling last?

It depends on the size, the position of the filling and how well you look after your teeth. Your dentist checks fillings at your regular visits.

Can I eat after a filling?

You can usually eat once the numbness wears off. Your dentist will tell you if there is anything to avoid.

Can a small cavity heal by itself?

Once there is a hole in the tooth, it does not heal. In the very early stage, before a hole forms, fluoride and good brushing can help. Your dentist will advise.

What if I ignore a cavity?

It can get deeper, cause pain and infection, and then need a root canal or extraction. Treating it early is simpler and keeps more of your own tooth.

This page gives general information. Your own treatment depends on an examination by your dentist. Individual results vary.
